So What Is The Bottom Line On My Money?

So after reading the first two parts of this article, we know that:

The way we relate to money today has much to do with the way our parents and mentors related to money.

In my life there was a lot of guilt surrounding money due to the struggles in my parent’s lives.

What I will cover in this 3rd and final segment to this article is how my past influenced my relationship with money.

Where’s My Money? – Show Me The Money!

Looking back on my younger years, I realize that I never was able to save much money. It seemed, I would spend it just as fast as I made it. That really didn’t concern me too much because I was happy I didn’t have to ask my dad for money any longer, for the things I needed. It was very freeing for me to be able to have my own money – guilt free.

Years would pass and I got married and a couple years later my wife and I had a son, and a few years after that a beautiful daughter. The funny thing is, as I grew older my money issues stayed the same. I worked hard, made a decent living and yet never managed to save or invest much. I always made sure my children got whatever they wanted because I was not going to subject them to the guilt that I had to go through. No Way!

What is My Money Mindset Now?

Even though my wife and I managed to save and invest as we matured in life, I never felt we were doing as well as we should and that always puzzled me, until I took the assessment on money at the seminar I was at. I realized it wasn’t how I valued money, and more to do with how I valued myself. The feelings of guilt I had at that young age, asking my dad for money, transpired to me feeling unworthy to having money and that is why as I grew older, I would spend money as fast as I made it.

How Do You Change Your Money Mindset?

The first step to any change is awareness, followed by conscious and persistent action. It is not easy to change years of bad habits and it takes much discipline. I suggest investing in yourself with reading, financial coaching and always be aware where you are financially by having a set routine and system for your finances.

So take a close look at where you are financially and ask yourself; “am I making as much as I could?’ “Am I saving and investing as much as I could?” Am I charging my clients and customers what I am really worth?” You might find the answers to be more about you than the economy, job market, stock market and other external circumstances.

Men, It’s Your Health

The other night my wife and I were watching a program on the television which is something we do not do often and when we do, we watch recorded programs to avoid the commercials. While watching this 2 hour show I saw somewhere in the vicinity of a half dozen commercials about erectile dysfunction or I believe e.d. is the hip acronym the pharmaceuticals like to refer to it as. The thing that amused me was how quickly they breeze through the side effects. Did you miss them? Let me list them out for you:

Chest Pain

Nausea

Headaches

Facial Flushing

Blurred Vision

Bluish Vision

Out of the above, the only one that is slightly appealing to me is the bluish vision. Living my life in the land of “smurfs” could be kind of cool. Another side effect is an erection lasting more than four hours and if this should happen I am to call my doctor to avoid permanent injury. Somehow I think if this should happen the phones in my house would mysteriously disappear. Oh, there are two more side effects they breezed through at the end of the commercial as if they were no big deal. In rare cases patients could suffer loss of hearing and vision and should call their doctor immediately if they suffer from these side effects. Let me get this straight, I cannot see or hear and yet I am to find my phone and listen to my doctor’s instructions?

Let’s Get Serious About Your Health

The purpose of this article is not to poke fun at erectile dysfunction or the men that need to be medicated for it. If they have exhausted all alternatives, I applaud them for taking action for their health and life. That being said, I think in more cases than not, men and women are looking for that magic pill to make everything all better instead of making healthier changes in their life. Let’s look at “ED” and some of it’s major causes:

High blood pressure

High Cholesterol

Depression

Stress

Smoking and alcohol

Heart Disease

Certain medicines

Now it is proven that with a change in diet and lifestyle many of these health issues can be corrected and yet many will opt for the possible loss of vision and hearing instead instead making those changes. Why is that?

Men, Be Responsible For Your Health

Many men will live with a health issue for some time before seeing a doctor. Sometimes this is because of embarrassment and sometimes a man just doesn’t want to admit his vulnerability to these health issues. He doesn’t want to admit it to others as well as to himself so when he finally sees his doctor and the doctor offers him a prescription, he is quick to accept it and disregard the side effects as long as his current problem goes away.

One of the causes of erectile dysfunction is also the cause of many of today’s illnesses which is stress. A person can take as many pills as they want and if they don’t reduce the stress in their life other illnesses will surface. It is time to be responsible for yourself and bring more balance into your life. Balance in sleep, nutrition, physical activity, recreation and of course your work. So please when you visit your doctor take in his or her advise on all you can do to increase the health and quality of your life. Take medicine when needed and don’t take it just to cover up the real issue.

*always check with your physician before starting, stopping or changing your prescription.

>

Who Said Life Would Be Easy?

This morning I received an email from my wife Laurie with my horoscope for the day. It read as follows:

”Nobody ever said it was going to be easy. Okay, maybe somebody did say that. But they were wrong, and if you believed them, you could be in for a little wake-up call. But don’t worry — if things were easy, life would be so boring! It’s much better this way. You’ll be much more energized and engaged, and that will make the whole prospect more interesting.”

I have to say, “I love it!” I wouldn’t want my life to be anyway else. Easy is boring.

Life Is Perfect Just The Way It Is

Now I am not saying that by perfect I mean that life always goes as planned for me. There is a saying that goes like this; “If you want to make God laugh, tell God your plans.” Life is perfect just the way it is because every experience along my path, whether it went smoothly or was filled with challenges brought me to where I am now. Every challenge I faced made me a better person for it and it did not matter whether the end result was as I expected because whatever the outcome I received valuable lessons and experiences.

Sometimes Help Is All You Need

Why are there so many people who believe whenever life is not easy for them they have to figure it out all on their own.Why would they put themselves and their families through so much pain and frustration? Why not ask for help? It is foolish to think some people wouldn’t use the experience and knowledge available to them today, which can be found through life coaches, business coaches, mentors, spiritual advisors, books and the internet. I often look to my mentors and coaches for help because it just makes sense. Whatever my situation is, chances are that someone else has been there before, so I want to use that information to my benefit. Knowing there is always help when I need it lets me look at life as a game I enjoy playing, to get to the next level.

 What Happened to Your Dream?

Let me guess. You had a fantastic life dream and you knew this one was going to come true for you. You started making plans for action, you had it all laid out in your mind on how it was going to work out for you and you saw your future with your dream coming true.

Let’s fast forward to a few months or maybe a year later. You vaguely remember the excitement you felt about your dream and you are not sure how you wondered off track. You feel let down because this is another dream that hsn’t come true for you. You wonder what happened?

Where Was Your Vision?

We live in a very complex and fast paced world today. It is easy to get distracted with all that is happening around us. Here are just a few examples:

Television

News

Social media such as facebook, twitter and myspace.

Family

Bills

Business or job,….and the list goes on and on and on!

It is easy to see that before long, we are way off track from our goals, dreams and visions. Chances are very strong, once we lose that momentum, we never get it back and we just plain give up. So, what can we do to keep ourselves focused and on track in pursuing our goals and dreams?

Keep Your Vision in Front of You!

There are many tools we can use to keep ourselves focused on the end result of our dreams. We can hire a coach, a mentor, be part of a mastermind group or have an accountability buddy. These are all great and can help you achieve some tremendous results, and yet, there is something you can do by yourself to keep your “eye on the prize.” Start a vision board and place it in a location where you will see it often. A vision board can be made from a poster board and you can glue pictures and write comments on it that represent what you want to achieve. They are fun and easy to put together and are powerful tools to help you stay focused. Along with multiple vision boards I also place inspiring quotes and statements around my house as gentle reminders to what I want to accomplish. Move them around so that you don’t get accustomed to seeing them in the same place. Another great idea is setting up your vision as a slide show and make it your screen saver on your computer.

Start Your Vision Now!

Get started immediately, while your dream is fresh in your mind. This is a fun and effective meathod for you to self coach yourself to success! Your dream is waiting for you!
